Evaluation of Medical-Legal Reports
In this series of projects UC DATA has conducted research on the impact of the 1989 and 1993 state reforms to the medical-legal process that determines the level of permanent disability resulting from occupational injuries. These reports have applied research methods to previously underutilized survey data to develop striking measurements of the magnitude and source of cost
savings. Numerous recommendations have been developed to improve the sampling procedures and data collection of the permanent disability survey that is done annually to monitor the medical-legal process. In addition, UC DATA assisted the Workers' Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau in a redesign of the survey instrument and sampling methods to improve the information generated.
