#2275 - Paradoxical views about the state deficit: While voters prefer budget cuts over tax increases, they reject cutbacks in each of 13 state program areas. Greatest opposition to cutting public schools and health care.

#2274 - Thirty years after its passage, Prop. 13 remains highly popular with voters. Most proposals to change its provisions face stiff voter resistance.

Director of UC DATA named as presidential election expert. Henry Brady, director of UC DATA, was named by UC Berkeley as presidential election expert. Dr. Brady has been interviewed extensively by state and local media on a wide variety of topics relating to political science, especially about the California recall election and the dangers of punch-card balloting.

WORKERS COMPENSATION

WorkComp Central UC DATA's Frank Neuhauser advises members of California's Commission on Health and Safety and Workers' Compensation that integrating workers compensation into group health plans would save employers 39% on workers compensation premiums. (December 17, 2007)

THE FUTURE OF SURVEY RESEARCH

Participation rates in survey research are declining as people become more concerned about their privacy and as mobile phones replace land-lines.
This spring, SRC hosted a panel of survey researchers from across the country to discuss the challenges facing university-based survey research and how to address them.

Pew Internet and American Life Project research recently revealed notable variance in technology use by cell phone users vs. land line users.
