California's Immigrant Households and Public-Assistance Participation in the 1990s
Summary
Immigrant households make up an increasing proportion of California's population and a significant proportion of the California households receiving public assistance. Immigrants are an increasingly important part of the California economy. Using the CPS, and the SIPP, the authors estimate the potential effects on households leaving assistance programs by examining the poverty rates and food insecurity among poor, non-assisted, and native and immigrant households.
